OLIVAIS-SUL APARTMENT
The apartment is located in the Olivais Sul Towers complex, originally designed by Raul Hestnes Ferreira and Manuel Tainha in 1967. The collective balconies associated with the cores suggest a desire for communal living. Each apartment is centered around a balcony that connects the main spaces, echoing the theme of outdoor space as a social unifier. However, the apartment, as we found it, had been significantly altered—all these connections had been lost. Our intervention aimed to restore the balcony as a central gathering space. It also included continuous plywood furniture for storage, which would introduce subtle transitions between spaces.
